FSU’s new hashtag keeps looking sadly literal
The Noles keep failing to #DoSomething.
Social media managers have to keep fans engaged — win or lose. Most team accounts use consistent hashtags associated with their teams.
For 2018 Florida State, that’s been #DoSomething. New Noles head coach Willie Taggart brought the slogan over from Oregon, where he was the head coach last season.

“I just look at myself, my journey, I never blamed anyone,” Taggart said. “I never made any excuses for me not being successful. I just worked my tail off, and I try to instill that in our players as well, because they’re all capable. So that’s been my motto my entire life: Blame no one, make no excuses. You’ve gotta do something.”
Unfortunately, the commitment to this hashtag has been more awkward than inspiring so far.
To recap FSU’s season so far: opened with a 24-3 blowout loss to Virginia Tech in primetime Labor Day night, and then nearly lost to FCS Samford at home. The Noles finished Week 10 sitting at 4-5 on the season after a blowout loss to NC State.
As a result, the #DoSomething hashtag has just been used so uncomfortably. From that VT game:
Kick is good.

During Week 3 against Syracuse, the Noles trailed the Orange early in the first quarter. No, that didn’t stop the hashtag!

Fans have noticed the irony in using the hashtag, too.
I know the new slogan for @FSUFootball is “do something” but I really wish we would #DoSomething #letsgo #VTvsFSU
— Jason Thompson (@JaThomp81) September 4, 2018
Definition of “irony”: @FSUFootball motto this year has been #DoSomething & with 10:59 left in the 2nd qtr, everyone in Nole Nation is wondering why Noles are playing like the motto was #DoNothing

.@FSUFootball really needs to change their team slogan- #DoSomething so far this season always looks like they're pleading for help

Can we not have a better slogan than “#DoSomething?” That is nothing more than a call to mediocrity...although I’d settle for mediocre at this point. So, on second thought, #DoSomething.

#DoSomething, @FSUFootball ♂️ ♂️ ♂️

Let’s go @FSUFootball #dosomething - at least pretend you know what to do
— Lois Wack (@loisannwack) October 20, 2018
And yeah, there are some fans that use it in jest, naturally — lotta stuff like this out there.
@CoachTaggart is hot garbage. #DoSomething anything please. @FSUFootball this Is unacceptable.
— John Johnson (@jjthebody) September 15, 2018
#DoSomething would be quite refreshing. So far instead of #lethalsimplicity its been #lethalineptitude
— R. Scott Alderman (@theiceman1729) September 11, 2018
Even Florida State’s sad turnover backpack got roasted with the #DoSomething:
@FSUFootball Do you want to #DoSomething ? Get rid of this sack of whatever! pic.twitter.com/oaJJbqFZVm
— Scott (@sparslow59) September 9, 2018
There are obviously a few games left for Florida State to win, but clearly this hashtag has done more harm than good this year.
