Siena men's basketball set to make 3-pointer a staple
Siena men's basketball coach Jamion Christian loves the 3-point shot, but that love went unrequited when Christian played for Mount St. Mary's more than a decade ago.
Christian made only 29.2 percent of his treys, his numbers getting worse every season, under legendary head coach Jim Phelan at The Mount from 2000 to 2004.
"I was ... not a good one,'' Christian said Friday at media day with a long laugh when asked if he was a 3-point shooter. "But I would take them. I wish I'd played for a guy who kept encouraging me to shoot them. He would encourage it, but it didn't really sink in as much. I don't think I was putting myself in the right mindset to be able to do that."
Since going into coaching, Christian has preached the importance of the 3-ball, which has become a dominant weapon in today's game. Look no further than the NBA's resident dynasty, the Golden State Warriors.
