The CFB Fun Blog: Week 4’s fun, weird, and interesting stuff
Your collection of the fun and weird in college football is mostly just that: fun and weird.
College football’s Week 4 is officially underway, and it’s already given us some fun, weird, and interesting things early on!
Nebraska got pummeled by Michigan, 56-10.
The loss dropped Nebraska to 0-3 on the season, and the Huskers have now trailed their opponents by a combined score of 77-0. Not quite the start new head coach Scott Frost was hoping to have.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh may have been aiming to run up the score all along, thanks to what Nebraska and Frost have said about the Wolverines in the past.
Oh and Wendy’s — yes, the restaurant Wendy’s — roasted Frost on Twitter:
Might need a Scott Frosty to ice down the beating Nebraska is taking.#FreshFanReaction

Boom, roasted.
This Nebraska safety sums up how the day went, pretty much:

It’s not just the guys on the field — it runs throughout the Crimson Tide family:

SMU beat Navy with a game-winning 2-pointer with a weird formation
Navy and SMU went into overtime deadlocked at 23-23. After the Midshipmen got the first score in overtime, the Mustangs followed with one of their own.
But instead of kicking a field goal, SMU went for the win with this creative play:
The victory was SMU’s first on the season, and it was well earned with the effort on that play.
You can get more details on why that play was completely legal right here.
UMass is having incredible efficiency
Look at this:

We have had the ball for 31 total seconds. We have scored 21 points.#Flagship pic.twitter.com/Pw7OLNtJra
After another possession, the Minutemen scored another touchdown, giving them 28 points with just one minute and 11 seconds of possession.
Look at this ref’s textbook downfield blocking technique during this Georgia fumble recovery touchdown!
It was incredible:
And it wasn’t the only weird UGA runback. For the second time this season, the Dawgs almost pulled a DeSean Jackson.
Wake Forest’s kicker had, um, a rough day against Notre Dame.
The Demon Deacons lined up for a a field goal attempt, but there was one slight problem — kicker Nick Sciba was nowhere to be found on the field, which led to a DOINK.
He also doinked another field goal later in this game so yeah, not the best day!
Kent State had a disastrous possession in the red zone against Ole Miss.
The Golden Flashes had 1st down inside the eight yardline and ended up...punting!
Kent State 7 Ole Miss 7. Kent State 1st and goal from the 8.

5-yard run loss
11-yard sack
6-yard sack
Punt. Downed at the 8
Oh yeah, that punt is as gloriously terrible but beautiful as you’re picturing:
Ole Miss’ DK Metcalf had a real nice TD catch in that game, too:

Texas put TCU’s band up in the nosebleeds!
Look how far they are from the field lmao:

Oh hey, Todd McShay...on top of a crane?!
In the second half of Georgia’s game against Missouri, McShay, who was working the sideline for the game, did a segment from the top of a construction crane that’s essentially overlooking Missouri’s stadium:
