Report: Raptors have made a “compelling offer” for Kawhi Leonard

Some actual news on top of the rumours.

After the painfully vague finish to Monday’s Lowe Post podcast in which Brian Windhorst posited that the Raptors are “in the driver’s seat” for Kawhi Leonard, the ESPN insider has offered more reason for giddiness among Raptors fans.

Speaking with Sportscentre’s Kara Waglund on Tuesday, Windhorst suggested that Masai Ujiri — who is currently attending an NBA Africa event with, among others, former US President Barack Obama — has made a “compelling offer” to the Spurs for Leonard.

All the caveats and concerns that have applied to the Leonard/Raptors chatter still exist today. Plenty of other teams, if they want to, can out-gun the Raptors should it come to an all-out bidding war. And the questions over both his health and desire to stay with any non-LA team beyond his contract’s expiration next summer are still unanswerable, representing a great deal of risk for any team that acquires him.

Based on Windhorst’s reporting, those questions could soon leave the dominion of the theoretical for Ujiri and Raptors.

What do you make of this new development?
