Everything that led to Aaron Boone’s walk off homer in the 2003 ALCS

0

A changed flight, one legendarily poor managing decision, and layoffs in Cincinnati!

As the joke goes, Aaron Boone’s interview for the position of Yankees manager was an at bat in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. He nailed it. Boone’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 11th inning is the kind of moment young fans tell their children about once they get old. It’s also yet another chapter in the persistently heated Yankees-Red Sox rivalry. But the 2003 ALCS was much more than one at bat; Game 3 alone gave us a matchup of Cy Young winners, and one of them ended up Bald Bulling Don Zimmer. It’s a classic series that deserves to be revisited like an old film. An old, twenty hour film, that someone should really condense into a more digestible nugget of nostalgia.

With the rivalry once again front and center in the American League, it’s only fitting to take a look at one of its most memorable moments. The All-Star break is right around the corner, so why not relax (unless you’re a Boston fan, admittedly) and rewind?
