Butch Jones’ former players are now trolling his ‘champions of life’ quote

0

This is glorious.

In 2016, the essence of Butch Jones’ tenure at Tennessee was born with his infamous “Champions of Life” quote in describing his Vol team, who in fact, did not win a championship of any kind that season.

“They’ve won the biggest championship, and that’s the championship of life.”

The quote, naturally, became a summation of the laughingstock that was Tennessee football under Jones, who was fired in November 2017 and replaced with Jeremy Pruitt in December.

But just because Jones is no longer in Knoxville, that doesn’t mean people have forgotten about the quote — not even his former players. Over the weekend, former Vol running back Alvin Kamara tweeted this at his former teammate, linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin:

It seems like this is all in good fun, since the two did play together and all. But overall this is pretty hilarious that the running Tennessee joke has made its way to Jones’ former players.

Here is some bonus Jones tomfoolery for you, because I still find it all hilarious:

A month after the original quote, he extrapolated on it beautifully worse:

He also said he wants recruits with “four and five-star hearts.”

“We’ve spoken about the competitive nature, and I think that’s really, really big in today’s world,” Jones said, via 247Sports. “Everyone gets into the whole two-star, three-star, four-star, five-star thing. The only five-star that we even concern ourselves with is a five-star heart.

“We want five-star hearts and five-star competitors.”

Thank you for keeping this going, Alvin and Jalen!
