Blake Bortles’ timely interception of a thief thwarted a burglary
A man tried to steal Blake Bortles’ wallet, but couldn’t quite get away with it.
Police say Blake Bortles turned into a crime stopper Wednesday night when he and Jacksonville Jaguars teammates Chris Reed and Brandon Linder stopped a man from stealing the quarterback’s wallet, according to TMZ.
The report says surveillance video shows Bortles’ wallet being intercepted by the thief who rummaged through the quarterback’s unlocked truck at a house party at Linder’s home. The keys to the truck were also there for the taking, but the uninvited party guest was boxed in by other cars and couldn’t steal the truck.
Just to circle back to that, Bortles left both his keys and his wallet inside his unlocked truck.
Chicago Bears rookie Roquan Smith had his team-issued iPad stolen from his car just a few days ago. He was promptly roasted by a columnist who, for some reason, jumped at the chance to call the first-round pick “sloppy and unreliable.” Imagine if Smith left the keys to the car inside too.
Lucky for Bortles, the would-be thief ... walked back in the house, for some reason? Yeah, there’s just a whole lot of bad decisions happening here.
When the Jaguars players realized he wasn’t supposed to be there, they stopped him and held him until police arrived. The man was reportedly booked for burglary, grand theft and trespassing.
A timely interception if there ever was one for Bortles.
