So, about that David West technical foul...

David West picked up a very dubious technical while riding a stationary bike.

During Sunday’s game four between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs, we got to see something pretty rare. David West got a technical foul, and he wasn’t in the game. Okay, that’s not that rare, but he wasn’t even on the bench! West was in the tunnel, riding a stationary bike when he was dinged for the T.

So that is . . . uhh . . . quite odd. Can’t say I remember that ever happening before.

Afterwards, a flurry of confusion ensued, as no one seemed to be sure what had happened. The Warriors plead West’s case, with Curry letting the referee crew know that any obscenities from that direction had come from a fan, not from a player.

Some speculated that West earned the technical in part because he got up to go to the bike, and that perhaps the referees had seen that as showing them up; that West was so upset that he left the court to avoid voicing his opinion. But Kerith Burke, the team’s sideline reporter, was quick to note that West’s stint on the bike was standard procedure.

The refereeing this season, and the postseason in particular, has been a touch suspect. Add this to the list of very bizarre sequences.
