The best outdoor photos of the Sabres vs. Rangers 2018 Winter Classic

The NHL’s 10th Annual Winter Classic was picture perfect.

The New York Rangers now remain unbeaten in outdoor games since the start of the NHL Winter Classic in 2008. It’s been 10 years since, and on a frigid New Year’s Day the Rangers bested the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2, in overtime at Citi Field.

J.T. Miller was the hero of the day as he scored the overtime winner for the Rangers in on a power play. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 31 of 33 Sabres shots in the matinee game in New York, marking his fourth win outdoors as well.

While there were questions of if the weather would cooperate considering the freezing temperatures, the 2018 Winter Classic went off without a hitch. There were wandering shadows that made the first period hard to watch on TV for some folks, but by mid-game Citi Field was covered in shadow.

We also got the announcement of the United States’ rosters for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics, which features former NHL-er Brian Gionta as the team’s captain.

The NHL’s 10th Winter Classic ended in a flurry finish, and was quite a fun one after the Rangers jumped out to a 2-0 lead and the Sabres climbed back to force overtime. Here are all the best sights of the day on another New Year’s Day hockey spectacle.
