Look how damn close Bama came to scoring an incredibly lucky TD on Auburn
Hale Hentges just missed it, upon further review.
Alabama almost scored a totally bonkers touchdown against Auburn to take the lead in the third quarter of Saturday’s Iron Bowl. It didn’t, but almost!
Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts got flushed from the pocket and scrambled to his right. Hurts made an obviously ill-advised throw to receiver Calvin Ridley, chucking the ball about 40 yards across his body to the back of the end zone.
Ridley was blanketed by two defenders, and the ball popped up high in the air. Bama tight end Hale Hentges came inches away from making one of the plays of the year and catching the ball on a ricochet, and the officials on the field initially ruled that he’d done just that.
But on a review, it was clear that the ball hit the ground before that. Bama then botched the snap on the field goal attempt that came on the next play, and Auburn maintained a 20-14 lead. What a sequence.
