Giannis Antetokounmpo found out the NBA media in China call him ‘Letter Bro’

‘It’s cool’

At this point, we’re used to saying Giannis Antetokounmpo aloud because he’s so good at what he does on the basketball court. But take it from this writer here: It can still be a bear to spell.

Apparently, in China, they don’t even bother. Today during his press availability for the Bucks, Antetokounmpo was approached by a reporter who told him his nickname in China is currently “Letter Bro.”

Wait, what?

“Your last name is super long, so in China everybody calls you ‘Letter Bro.’,” the reporter said to Antetokoumpo.

“Letter?” he said, before eventually cracking a smile. Their conversation continued.

“Letter bro. Because there are so many letters for your last name. So how do you like this name? What’s your thought on this?”

Peep that low-key eye-roll from Antetokounmpo during the reporter’s explanation before he gave his response. I think, collectively, this is how we all felt.

“This is my first time that I’ve heard that nickname,” Antetokounmpo said. “It’s cool. In China, if people call me like that, it’s cool.”

It is, in fact, cool. And very chill. It might not be good, but it is very chill. And Antetokounmpo’s response was equally as chill.

I’m 100 percent certain that this isn’t the first time Antetokounmpo has had someone make light of his last name, but once you add bro to it? It’s all good.

Imagine if they had called him something like ‘Letter basketball guy’ or ‘Letter dunk man’ or something else a bit cornier than ‘Letter bro.’ The nickname would have missed its mark. But with bro? Nah, that’s spot on.

Because at the end of the day, Antetokounmpo might be the bro-est of all bros. Upon arriving in America, he proclaimed the ‘smothie’ as the greatest invention ever.

Does it get any more ‘bro’ than that? Probably not. So the nickname makes sense, despite how cheesy it is. There’s a lack of creativity that comes with it, but hey. Who’s here to judge? Not Antetokounmpo, because he’s ‘Letter bro.’
