Olympic, WNBA star Holdsclaw to attend Oakland’s Women Sports Film Festival
Basketball royalty will be present at the New Parkway Theater in Oakland this weekend. Chamique Holdsclaw, who won three NCAA championships at Tennessee and an Olympic gold medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney and had a stellar WNBA career, is the guest of honor at the annual Women Sports Film Festival.
Holdsclaw’s standout career and her long battle with depression are explored in Rick Goldsmith’s “Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw,” scheduled for a screening at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 1.
“I’m an athlete,” Holdsclaw, now a mental health advocate, says in the film. “If I want to get fit, I know what to do. But it was like my mind was always, in a sense, detached.
