The Toledo Rockets had Miami on UPSET ALERT. Then Miami destroyed them.

The Rockets had a 16-0 second quarter run, but things went south in the second half.

No. 14 Miami had trouble with the MAC’s Toledo on Saturday. Then it didn’t, and the Hurricanes wound up winning at home, 52-30.

Toledo took a 16-10 lead into halftime. The Hurricanes hadn’t played since Sept. 2, as a game against Arkansas State was canceled and one against Florida State was pushed back to Oct. 7. The layoff didn’t appear to have treated Miami well.

Miami led 10-0 after one quarter, but the Rockets responded with a 16-0 run in the second. Woodside threw one touchdown pass, and kicker Jameson Vest knocked through three field goals to supplement it. Miami was losing at the break despite averaging 9 yards per play to Toledo’s 5.9.

Toledo’s a quality mid-major. The Rockets have an excellent quarterback in Logan Woodside, and it’s not a coincidence that they won 28 games in the three seasons before this one. They’ve beaten Power 5 teams before, most recently Arkansas and Iowa State in 2015. Jason Candle’s team is worth taking seriously, and Maimi got more trouble than it likely bargained for.
