Red Sox pitcher has to take the subway to Fenway Park just like everyone else

Boston’s Steven Wright got caught on the Green Line on his way to Tuesday’s game.

It’s happened to everybody at some point of another: you’re on your way to a baseball game, excited to grab some peanuts and Crackerjacks and whatnot, when your train gets delayed or you get stuck in traffic.

That is so frustrating, especially if you have riled-up kids or were planning on proposing specifically in the third inning and you might not make it to the field before then (this is a hypothetical situation that should ideally never happen but whatever).

It has to be even more frustrating if you’re, say, a player who is also trying to get to the field before first pitch? Which is what happened to Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright before Tuesday night’s game between the Sox and Cardinals at Fenway.

The good thing is that Wright is on the disabled list after having season-ending surgery earlier this year so it’s not like he’s about to miss his own start or something. He might not even have to be at the ballpark right on time since he isn’t in uniform.

But the fact that he’s not even off the subway and this photo appears to have been taken after 6pm doesn’t bode well for him making it to the park for any pre-game pep talks.

Even worse than him possibly being delayed, it seems like Wright is also wedged between the stairs and a stroller that is holding not one but two infants. That’s not an ideal public transit situation right there.

“Listen guys, I’m not going to be in the clubhouse anytime soon because the T is a trash subway system. It’s not because I lost track of time playing Mario Superstar Baseball again, I swear.”

Eventually, the Green Line comes for us all. Even professional athletes.
