Malik McDowell injured in ATV accident and Seahawks don’t know when he’ll return
The rookie is currently under medical care in Michigan, where the accident occurred.
The Seahawks released a statement on Sunday about rookie defensive lineman Malik McDowell, who sustained injuries in an accident in Michigan a few weeks ago.
The accident involved an ATV, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Garafolo said McDowell suffered a concussion and facial injuries.
McDowell said via Twitter that his injuries are not life or career-threatening.
“I am doing well and expect to join my teammates in Seattle in the next few days,” McDowell said.
The team confirmed McDowell had been involved in an accident and had remained under the care of doctors in Michigan. The Seahawks said team physicians have been in constant contact with the doctors caring for McDowell.
“At this point it is important for Malik to stay home and rest,” the statement read. “We consider this a long term relationship and will do whatever is in the best interest of Malik. We look forward to Malik’s return to Seattle and will update you with any changes.”
Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that the accident happened a few weeks ago, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times. Carroll declined to say what the long-term outlook is for McDowell at this point.
Carroll says can't say if McDowell will play this season.

The team placed McDowell on its reserve/did not report list, which frees up a roster spot for the Seahawks until McDowell is able to return. The team filled that spot by signing defensive tackle Rodney Coe, according to Condotta.
