Time to add an assistant coach just for fouls/officiating?

Like it or not, officiating and the fouls called or uncalled has become such an important part of the game now. Leaving all the conspiracy theories aside, one of the strongest influences on how refs work a game is their presumptions on players and how they play. I do not believe refs approach a game without prep (at least key games) and I do not believe they approach every game the same way with nothing in mind except the rule book. They get pointers on what to look for that usually gets missed and in certain situations even act on presumptions. For example, if they suspect a game is going to be played too physically or emotions may flare up, they call it too close to control the tempers. If we accept that refs approach the game with a prep and their own game plan, it is clear that teams try to influence how refs prepare for the games. Examples we know of: last year teams pointing at Dubs moving screens; teams highlighting Draymond, etc.

Watching how Shumpert grabs people or how RJ and Love are holding the players off ball, and more importantly getting away it, it seems like Cavs have been studying what gets called and what does not get called. In addition, it is entirely possible that they have a very effective campaign to the league heavily on what they perceive to be unfair plays by Warriors. It was clear in the last Finals on moving screens and anything Draymond does.

All this makes me think that given the importance of this, teams should stop complaining about bad officiating and treat it as one more variable they should influence and control. Given there is so much to think about and plan for for the coaching staff, they may need to add one more just to deal with it. That assistant coach needs to study every foul called and uncalled, who the refs are for the game, when to play more aggressive and when not to, when to flop and not to, when to play like Harden and LeBron overacting any touch and when that may get you into trouble, etc.

I have read all the blogs and media posts and they talk about what Cavs may do and Warriors do etc but I see that Shump and RJ are getting away with murder and Warriors need to deal with it and take care of it and not cry on the shoulders of the refs.

Oh Kerr, if you want to create such a position and hire someone. I am cheap :-)
