Morning Briefing: Mets Showing Interest in Michael King

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Winter Meetings have begun, and with them, rumors are swirling. Per Joel Sherman of The NY Post, the Mets have also shown interest in former Padre Michael King. The fit for King appears to be nearly perfect with the Mets need for starting pitching, especially considering his 3.10 ERA over 247 inning over the past two seasons.

To keep with the theme of the Mets’ interest in former Padres pitchers, FanSided‘s Robert Murray reported that the team has touched base with closer Robert Suarez. Although the Mets have had continued discussions with Edwin Díaz, if they are unable to sign their longtime closer, Suarez would be an excellent second option. In a 2025 All-Star campaign, he posted a 2.97 ERA with an NL-leading 40 saves.

The NY Post reported that the Mets have shown interest in slugger Kyle Schwarber. The Mets have had a major hole at DH for many years now, and Schwarber’s 187 homers over the last four seasons with the Phillies would certain help the pursuit of a World Series.
