Mets in Agreement with Devin Williams on Three-Year Deal
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the New York Mets are in agreement with reliever Devin Williams on a three-year contract. Williams’ deal is worth $50 million, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Passan reports that the deal is a straightforward three-year pact: no options or opt-outs. Williams receives a $6 million bonus to be paid out over the three years of his deal, per Jon Heyman of The New York Post, who also said $5 million each year of the deal was deferred.

Williams, who just turned 31, was one of the more dominant closers in baseball with the Milwaukee Brewers, where his most notable moment was allowing a go-ahead homer to Pete Alonso in Game 3 of their 2024 NL Wild Card Series against the Mets. Following their 2024 playoff exit, Williams was dealt to the New York Yankees, where he served one year in the back end of their bullpen.
Williams’ ERA sat at 4.79 for the 2025 season, but that figure is an incredible outlier from the rest of his career. The struggle was incredible to begin the 2025 season for Williams, leading to him eventually being demoted from the closer’s role. His season finished as one with multiple ups and downs, but his numbers remained considerably better in save situations than non-save situations: a 4.15 ERA compared to a mark of 5.81.
Through his seven years in the big leagues, Williams has turned in a 2.45 ERA with 86 saves. Of note, Williams spent the first five seasons of his MLB career under David Stearns. Williams is a two-time All-Star, making the roster in 2022 and 2023.
The Mets were in obvious need of relief help this winter, considering the mass exodus from their 2025 group to free agency, headlined by closer Edwin Diaz. The Mets remain open to bringing Diaz back, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, and Williams is willing to pitch in a set-up role. The Mets’ interest in obtaining the services of both arms was first reported by Passan.
