Mets Announce 2026 Hall of Fame Inductees

0 1

The New York Mets announced Thursday that Carlos Beltrán, Lee Mazzilli, and Bobby Valentine will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 2026.

The organization will announce the ceremony date in the coming months. These three additions will bring the total membership to 38. The team previously inducted David Wright in 2025, the same day they retired his number.

The 2026 induction ceremony will honor these three figures who made significant contributions to Mets history both on and off the field.

Carlos Beltrán

Carlos Beltrán ranks in the top 10 in Mets history across multiple offensive categories. These include home runs (seventh, 149), RBIs (seventh, 559), runs scored (10th, 551), on-base percentage (sixth, .369), slugging percentage (sixth, .500), and OPS (fourth, .869). During his seven-year tenure with the Mets, he earned five All-Star selections, three Gold Glove Awards, and two Silver Slugger honors. As a Met, he slashed .280/.369/.500.

Furthermore, Beltrán has served in the front office since returning to the organization in January 2023, now working as a special assistant to president of baseball operations, David Stearns. In January 2025, he received 70.3 percent of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America vote for the National Baseball Hall of Fame, falling just short of the 75% threshold vote.

“Carlos’ impact on the organization was and continues to be invaluable,” said Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen. “His unique blend of power, speed and defensive grace made him one of the most dynamic players ever to wear a Mets uniform. We are extremely hopeful that he receives positive news this January when the Baseball Hall of Fame announces its 2026 class.”

Lee Mazzilli

A Brooklyn native, Lee Mazzilli’s two stints with New York (1976-1981, 1986-1989) made him a local legend and World Series champion. Overall, he compiled a .264/.357/.396 slash line over 10 seasons in Queens. He twice finished in the top 10 in the National League in on-base percentage and walks.

Mazzilli made the 1979 (his best season) All-Star team, where he hit the game-tying home run, the only Met to have two RBIs in an ASG until Pete Alonso in 2019. Impressively, Lee ranks sixth in franchise history with 152 stolen bases.

The Cohens noted, “Lee quickly became a fan favorite during the late ’70s and hit the first home run by a Met during an All-Star Game in 1979. Mazz returned to the Mets in 1986 and became a key contributor off the bench for the World Championship team, delivering clutch hits in the most crucial moments.”

Bobby Valentine

Bobby Valentine ranks third in Mets history with 536 wins as manager from 1996 to 2002. In 1999, he led the team to the postseason for the first time since 1988, taking them to the World Series a year later. He also became the first manager in franchise history to guide the team to consecutive playoff appearances. Valentine won the Branch Rickey Award in 2002 for his work on and off the field with the survivors of 9/11, and of course, is infamously known for his doppelgänger in sunglasses and a mustache.

Before managing, Bobby spent 10 years playing professionally in the majors. He spent two years playing for the Mets in 1977 and 1978. During that time, he played a mix of second, third and shortstop.

“Bobby served as the charismatic manager of the Mets from 1996 to 2002,” said the Cohens. “Known for his innovation, baseball intellect and relentless pursuit of every competitive edge, Bobby V left a lasting mark on the Mets organization.”
