Morning Briefing: Happy David Wright Day

0 6

Good morning, Mets fans!

In their first game after the All-Star break, the Mets fell 8-4 as rookie right-hander Alex Carrillo gave up three home runs out of the bullpen. Brandon Waddell helped save the bullpen by pitching 3 2/3 innings, though he allowed seven baserunners. New York staged a two-out rally, as five men reached before Cincinnati brought in closer Emilio Pagán to shut it down. On the bright side, Brandon Nimmo went 2-for-3 with a couple of runs scored, and Juan Soto hit a solo home run.

This afternoon, though, it’s David Wright Day. New York will send Clay Holmes (8-4, 3.31 ERA) to the mound against Nick Martinez (7-9, 4.78 ERA) as the club looks to get back into winning ways. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. ET and will air on SNY. The Mets will honor Wright before the game as they retire his number and induct him into the Mets Hall of Fame.
