Roundtable: With Recent Performance, Will The 2025 Mets Make The Playoffs?
We’re not denying the Mets have been less than stellar lately. Not to get all doom and gloom on you, but we have to talk about it—is this going to hinder their playoff chances? Our team’s here to share our thoughts on if we think the 2025 Mets will still be making the playoffs.

Yes, I think the core of the offense is sound, the team’s two best starting pitchers are expected to return sooner rather than later, and just three weeks ago we trusted this front office blindly. They didn’t suddenly forget how to do their jobs.
Mathias Altman-Kurosaki
Yes, I believe they will still make the playoffs. We have to remember that this team had the best record in baseball through June 12. While very little has gone right the last 2.5 weeks, this is still a very talented team that hasn’t been playing at full strength. The pitching staff should improve once Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga return, and the offense will soon get back their primary designated hitter, Jesse Winker. Plus, I think David Stearns and Co. will make a few moves to bolster the roster over the next few weeks. Don’t let a couple of bad weeks fool you, this is still a good baseball team.
Christian De Block
Yes, the 2025 Mets will make the playoffs. Over a long, 162-game season, slumps are going to happen. We should also remember that key pieces are working their way back from injuries. Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga, Jesse Winker and Brooks Raley. Once they return, this team will look a whole lot different. I would also expect David Stearns to be active and aggressive as the trade deadline approaches. It won’t be long before the Mets return to form and showcase why they will be a part of the postseason.
Matthew Tutrone
I wanna say… maybe? Despite the past two weeks feeling like the longest year of our lives, it was really just two weeks. Just 16 out of 162 games. Granted, it went about as badly as possible, but if you wipe away the emotions elicited by this recent stretch it’s clear that this roster is playoff caliber, and still backed by a top-notch front office and motivated ownership. They’re gonna right the ship. Unfortunately for the Mets, the NL has many playoff caliber teams across all three divisions, but I’m fully confident the Mets will be in the playoff hunt at the very least.

Yes. Despite this stretch, I think that the Mets are too talented to continue to play at this level. Pitching reinforcements will help immensely, whether it is starting pitchers going further into games or better arms in the bullpen allowing the group to stay fresh. The return of Jesse Winker will help lengthen the lineup as well. Now, some of the team’s younger players (Vientos, Baty, Alvarez, Mauricio, etc.) need to step up. And the team needs to likely add an arm and another power bat. But I think at least one of them will, and I trust in Stearns to do what is needed. It may not look like it right now, but the Mets are still a very good team and will have a playoff spot by the end of the year.
Rafael González
Yes, because ultimately I think the Mets are much closer to the team they showed through the first 69 (nice) games than they have shown over the last 16. The rotation is better than their recent performance suggests and will be aided by reinforcements. I trust Stearns and Co to manage and improve the bullpen. I also believe in this core of hitters to bounce back and improve their approach with RISP. Lastly, in year two at the helm, with the type of talent this roster has I think Stearns’ will be more aggressive at the trade deadline to pursue depth or even high end talent.
David Melendi
After that Pirates series, I want to shout “playoffs?!” like in the old Jim Mora clip. I think the Mets will get there, but I am concerned. The starting pitching needs to hold up until Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga and/or Tylor Megill return, Francisco Lindor hasn’t been the same since he broke his toe and Huascar Brazoban isn’t inspiring confidence.
Michelle Ioannou
Of course they will. Ya gotta believe, right?
