Corbin Burnes Signs Six-Year, $210 Million Deal with D-Backs

In perhaps the most shocking twist of the offseason thus far, the Arizona Diamondbacks have reportedly signed right-handed pitcher Corbin Burnes to a six-year deal worth $210 million, which includes an opt-out after the 2026 campaign.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman broke the news, while USA Today’s Bob Nightengale revealed that Burnes turned down more money from the San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays due to tax purposes.

One of baseball’s elite starters, Burnes now joins a rotation that features Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, Brandon Pfaadt, Eduardo Rodríguez and Jordan Montgomery. Arizona aggressively pursued pitching help last offseason, inking Rodríguez and Montgomery to sizable deals after reaching the World Series in 2023, and is doing so again as it tries to keep pace with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Burnes, in his lone season with the Baltimore Orioles, posted a 2.92 ERA, 3.55 FIP and 3.7 fWAR across 32 starts and 194 1/3 innings in 2024. The 30-year-old ace has been named an All-Star in each of the last four years and won the NL Cy Young Award as a member of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021.

The move evokes shades of Zack Greinke agreeing to a six-year, $206.5 million pact with the D-Backs in December 2015, which stood as the largest contract in franchise history before Burnes came aboard.

Burnes, who lives in Arizona, will look to help the team get back to the playoffs after narrowly missing out on a spot despite an 89-win showing this past season.
