Royals Acquire Jonathan India From Reds For Brady Singer
The Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a trade that will send infielder Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer to the Royals while right-handed starting pitcher Brady Singer will head to the Reds.
India slashed .248/.357/.392 with 15 home runs, 58 RBIs and 13 stolen bases this past season as Cincinnati’s primary second baseman. Wiemer split his season between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Reds organizations, but only logged 28 plate appearances in the majors
Singer had a strong campaign for the Royals, pitching to a 3.71 ERA with 170 strikeouts over 179 2/3 innings, which was a career high.
The Reds made this trade to alleviate the logjam of infielders they have while adding some stability to their young rotation. The Royals boosted their infield and lineup as a whole with the move, giving Bobby Witt Jr. a reliable double-play partner in India who gets on base at a high percentage. Wiemer will likely serve as organizational depth.
