Morning Briefing: Citi Field Construction Continues to Progress

Good morning, Mets fans!

Early on Friday morning, Tom Kaminski of WCBS 880 shared new photos of the progress being made on Citi Field’s latest upgrades. Along with the much larger center field and right field scoreboards, work is also being done on the ground in right field to implement the new Speakeasy Club. Mike Puma of the New York Post reported in November that the wall in right field is moving in over eight feet to accommodate this new club. Steve Cohen’s latest projects to improve fan experience at the ballpark will be complete before the season begins in late March.

The Mets, along with the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, MLB, and the YMCA of Greater New York are hosting a career panel today in honor of Black History Month. The panel will be for 50 youth members of the program Saturday Night Lights.

An impressive snow sculpture of Shohei Ohtani was built for the annual Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan, and will be on display as the festival starts today.

1963: New York City mayor Robert Wagner signed a bill changing the name of the Mets’ future ballpark from Flushing Meadow Stadium to William A. Shea Municipal Stadium. Shea, largely responsible for the existence of the Mets, would be the namesake of the team’s ballpark for over 40 years.
