[Women's Golf] Golf Wraps Up Record Breaking 2022 Fall Season

0 11

Mount Marty Women's Golf team wrapped up its fall season on September 25th. Mount Marty had a great fall, their worst finish in a tournament was 5th. The Lancers finished 2nd three times throughout the fall along with a couple of 3rd places and 4th place finishes. In the past season, the golf schedule featured two GPAC or conference tournaments in the fall and two in the spring. This year they changed it to only being in the Spring when the Lancers will travel to Spencer, IA on May 1st and 2nd to compete in the Women's Golf GPAC Championship at the Spencer Golf and Country Club.

Mount Marty had six team scores from this fall that finished in the Top 20 all-time as a program. Coach Schlimgen said, "This group of kids had an outstanding fall season, which is not only obvious by looking at our record book but also by their hard work and determination. The best part of this group is that they consistently challenge themselves and continue to push to improve. As good as we played this fall, they know that we are capable of improvement as well, which is very exciting! If we can get everyone playing their best at the same time we have the opportunity to do great things. I'm proud of what this group has accomplished and am looking forward to our spring season already."

On September 14th Kelsey Heath (SO/Sisseton, SD) of Mount Marty University was named GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women's Golfer-of-the-Week. Heath, a sophomore from Sisseton, South Dakota, took first place overall at the Siouxland Invite that week. She shot a two-round total of 154 with individual rounds of 75 and 79. Todd had this to say about Kelsey, "Kelsey continued her outstanding career this fall, to have the top 4 scores in school history after only 3 semesters is an amazing accomplishment! Her tremendous golf ability and the work ethic required to compete at a top level is a great combination that gives Kelsey a chance to post fantastic scores."

Another golfer that finished as the top golfer for Mount Marty was Tanna Lehfedlt when she placed 2nd at the College of Saint Mary Invite shooting a 77. Schlimgen added, "Tanna's hard work this summer, both physically and mentally, prepared her for a very good fall season. Her ability to stay in the moment and focus on the next shot paved the way for lower scores and more control of her golf game, which showed by her lowering her scoring average by 6 strokes from last fall."

The lone senior for Mount Marty is Courtney Heath (SR/Sisseton, SD). Kalee Gilsdorf (SO/Madison, NE) and Tatum Jensen (SO/Rock Rapids, IA) are all sophomores. Katie Roth (JR/Marion, SD) and Caitlyn Stimpson (JR/Pickstown, SD) are juniors who give the Lancers a good balance of young and older talent. The Lancers also added seven Top 20 individual finishes for the fall season.
