It was an off day for Francisco Álvarez, but the Syracuse Mets’ offense came to play, as big days from Mark Vientos, Brett Baty, and Khalil Lee propelled Syracuse to a 6-5 victory on Thursday night. William Lugo hit his first home run at the High-A level for Brooklyn, while 2022 first-round pick Jett Williams provided all the offense for the FCL Mets in just his third professional game.

AAA: Buffalo Bisons (56-51) 5, Syracuse Mets (48-60) 6 Box Score

  • 1B Mark Vientos: 2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, SO, .271/.355/.525
  • 3B Brett Baty: 2-for-4, 2 R, BB, SO, .312/.408/.538
  • CF Khalil Lee: 3-for-4, 2 RBI, SB, .205/.321/.373

The Mets edged out a victory in a back-and-forth game, scoring the deciding runs on a two-run single from Khalil Lee in the bottom of the seventh inning. Only one of the team’s 11 hits went for extra bases, but they made those hits count. Lee had three hits, Mark Vientos had two hits and two RBI, and Brett Baty had two hits with two runs scored. Baty is 4-for-11 in his three games with Syracuse since being called up.

Connor Grey started off the game strong, and despite giving up two runs in the fifth inning he left the game in line for the win after five innings of work. R.J. Alvarez was credited with a blown save when he gave up two runs in the seventh inning, but he was ultimately credited with a win after the offense rallied in the bottom half of the inning. Bryce Montes de Oca recorded a dominant six-out save for his seventh save of the season, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out five.

AA: Altoona Curve (51-54) 8, Binghamton Rumble Ponies (39-65) 6 Box Score

The Rumble Ponies managed to rally from a 6-2 deficit to tie the game at 6-6 in the eighth inning, but they fell short in completing the comeback and dropped their fifth straight game. Ronny Mauricio had a single and collected his 14th steal of the season. Rowdey Jordan hit his first home run at the Double-A level, while Hayden Senger crushed his fourth homer of the year.

Dibrell made his first start (second appearance) back with Binghamton since the 2021 season after four rehab starts, and he surrendered three runs in three innings on the mound. Antonio Santos was excellent on the mound across his two innings of work and kept the opposition off the board as the offense was mounting its comeback. However, Zanghi let the game get away in the ninth and suffered his first loss of the season as a result.

A+: Brooklyn Cyclones (53-52) 7, Wilmington Blue Rocks (53-51) 6, F/12 Box Score

  • SS William Lugo: 1-for-4, HR (1), 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 BB, .258/.347/.429
  • CF Alex Ramirez: 1-for-5, BB, SB, .263/.325/.465
  • DH Matt Rudick: 3-for-6, RBI, R, SO, .213/.351/.350

It was a long extra-inning contest for the Cyclones, but they eventually came out on top in the 12th inning to push their overall record back over .500. Both runs that the Cyclones scored in extras were on RBI groundouts. William Lugo crushed his first home run for Brooklyn and is 2-for-12 with a double and homer in his three games since being called up. Alex Ramirez has cooled down considerably after his blazing hot start with the Cyclones, yet he reached base twice and collected a stolen base in this one.

Keyshawn Askew ran into trouble in the second inning and ultimately gave up four runs across five innings of work. Jeffrey Colón was lights-out behind him, pitching three hitless innings in his first game for Brooklyn since being called up. Dylan Hall blew the save in the ninth inning, but the run that he gave up was unearned, and he has still allowed just one run across 10 appearances (15 innings) for the Cyclones. Daison Acosta was very shaky in extras and also was credited with a blown save, but he stayed on for the deciding 12th inning and earned his second win of the year.

A: St. Lucie Mets (61-43) 5, Clearwater Threshers (49-55) 6, F/11 Box Score

The Mets scored just two runs in the first 10 innings of Thursday night’s game, courtesy of a bases-loaded single from Omar De Los Santos. They pieced together three runs in the top of the 11th on an RBI double from Raul Beracierta and a two-run homer from Jack-Thomas Wold, his sixth of the season. However, that was not enough as the Threshers rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 11th for a heartbreaking loss for the Mets.

Jordan Geber surrendered only one run as he battled his way through 5 1/3 innings for a solid start. The bullpen gave up a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning before imploding in the bottom of the 11th. Miguel Alfonseca allowed just one hit in the frame, but he was credited with four runs against and was eventually saddled with a loss, his first of the season.

Complex League: FCL Mets (28-18) 1, FCL Astros Blue (12-32) 0 Box Score

Jett Williams provided the only run in the game on an RBI single, and the pitching staff combined for the shutout. He also lived up to his name and stole three bases, he’s now 4-for-4 stealing bases in three pro games.

Sixth rounder Tyler Stuart made his pro debut with a scoreless first inning.

Dominican League: DSL Mets1 (18-15) 5, DSL Cubs Blue (11-22) 1 Box Score

The Mets came out on top in this completion of a suspended game from back on July 18th. Simon Juan had two hits and a stolen base.

Dominican League: DSL Mets1 (26-23) 7, DSL Cubs Blue (20-29) 5 Box Score

Yonatan Henriquez smacked a pair of homers, Jesus Baez chipped in with a home run of his own, and the Mets won despite a late collapse from the bullpen.

Dominican League: DSL Cubs Red (19-32) 2, DSL Mets2 (20-29) 3 Box Score

All eight of the Mets’ hits were singles, but they scratched across three runs in the second inning and pitching carried them to the victory.
