Silvis, Ill. – Friends University freshman Trenton Sutherland competed at this week's NAIA National Championship at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. to put a bow on the rejuvenated Falcon men's golf program.

Sutherland shot a 74 (+3) in the first round and then improved to shoot just one over par (72) in the second round to finish with an overall score of 74-72-146.

Ten players met the top 40 requirements for the individual cut and will compete for the individual title, while the top 17 team scores advanced to play the final 36 holes.

"We are incredibly proud to have had Trent represent our program and university at nationals," said Dustin Galyon, Friends University men's golf head coach and Director of Golf. "We firmly believe that this is where he belongs and it shows his tremendous ability making it as a freshman."

With the program restarted for the first time since 2015, Sutherland helped the Falcons enjoy quite a return to campus.

The Arkansas City, Kan. native earned his way to nationals by sinking a 30+-foot birdie on the 72nd hole to capture the KCAC individual championship.

The KCAC Freshman of the Year and a second-team all-conference selection, Sutherland won three individual titles while helping the Falcons win three event championships this season.

"The coaching staff is really excited about where the program is headed with three wins in the first year," said Galyon. "Additionally, with some strong recruits coming in that will add to our already strong roster, we are excited for the possibilities ahead!"
