[Softball] SXU Falls to Southeastern in Lawrenceville Bracket Championship
Lawrenceville, Ga. – No. 3 seed and No. 25 ranked Saint Xavier University softball (39-8, 21-1 CCAC) forced the if-necessary game of the Lawrenceville Bracket Championship with a 12-6 victory over No. 1 seed and No. 11 ranked Southeastern University (Fla.), but lost the deciding game, 3-2, on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th to see their season come to an end Wednesday afternoon split at the Grizzly Softball Complex in Lawrenceville, Ga. Senior outfielder Lyda Robinson (Seneca, Ill./Seneca) went 4-for-5 with an RBI, a run and stolen base in game one. Robinson set the SXU single-season record for runs scored with 61. Sophomore pitcher Laila Summers (Joliet, Ill./Providence Catholic) earned the win in relief (12-3), by pitching 5.0 innings with 11 hits, six runs (three earned), a walk and three strikeouts.
Sophomore infielder Alexus Reese (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) was 1-for-2 with a two-run double and two walks in game two. Sophomore pitcher Alyssa Frey (Sheboygan, Wis./Trinity International/Sheboygan South) took the loss (10-2) after throwing 6.2 innings and giving up nine hits, three runs and walking five batters.
