[Women's Basketball] Flames Get Hot in Third Quarter to Down Women's Basketball

Doane Women's Basketball hit the road on Wednesday evening, traveling to Omaha to take on College of Saint Mary. After a tight first half, the Flames used a 20-point advantage in the third quarter to pull away for a 77-63 win over the Tigers.

Saint Mary held a five point lead at halftime, 33-28. The Flames built their lead in the first quarter before both teams started to struggle to find their shot. The two teams combined to shoot 21-percent in the second quarter, each scoring 11 points.

In the third quarter, the Flames found the hot hand as they hit 69-percent of their shot attempts while the Tigers were held to 18-percent shooting. Saint Mary outscored the Tigers, 29-9, in the quarter to take a 25-point advantage in the final quarter. Doane outscored the Flames, 26-15, in the final quarter but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Olivia Nall (SO/Tilden, Neb.) led all scorers with 19 points while Mak Hatcliff (FR/Beatrice, Neb.) added 16 points and Sydney Roth (JR/Deshler, Neb.) finished with 11 points. Nall was joined by Maddie Davis (JR/Yutan, Neb.) with seven rebounds apiece to lead the Tigers. Roth had a team-high three assists while Hatcliff led the team with four steals.

Saint Mary had four starters in double-figures led by Alyssa Marsh-Contreras with 18 points. Clare Lewandowski added a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds to go with six of the team's 11 blocked shots.

Doane will be back home on Saturday, January 29, for a 2:00 PM match-up with Midland.
