Morning Briefing: Brian DeLunas Passes Away At Age 46

Good morning, Mets fans.

Brian DeLunas, a former special projects coordinator in player development for the Mets, passed away at the age of 46 on Sunday. DeLunas was fighting an extended battle with kidney disease, and he was most recently the pitching coach at the University of Missouri.

DeLunas’ nephew, Austin Cheeley, set up a GoFundMe for expenses in regards to the life of DeLunas.

Former Mets southpaw Royce Ring will join the KBO’s Lotte Giants as the team’s new pitching coordinator, according to Daniel Kim. Ring will join former New York pitching coach Ricky Meinhold in Lotte as Meinhold is the team’s Director of Pitching.

Former Mets infielder Edgardo Alfonzo is the leading candidate to take over as manager for the Ferry Hawks of the independent Atlantic League, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Alfonzo played eight seasons with New York where he earned an All-Star bid in 2000.
