Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets had themselves a productive Black Friday, as they signed three impactful players.

They began the day by signing Eduardo Escobar to a two-year, $20 million contract with a third year club option. Jon Heyman of MLB Network was the first to break the news. Escobar, 32, hit .253 with 28 homers in 2021 with the Diamondbacks and Brewers.

Shortly after that, the Mets found an outfielder in Mark Canha. Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that the Mets signed the veteran first. Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that the deal was for two years and $26.5 million with a third year club option. Canha, 32, spent the first seven years of his career with the Athletics. He hit .231 with 17 home runs in 2021.

The cap off Black Friday, Steve Cohen’s Mets dished out their first major contract of the winter. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported that the Mets signed outfielder Starling Marte to a four-year, $78 million contract. Marte, 33, is likely to become the starting center fielder in 2022.

The 10-year veteran had a career year in 2021. He hit .310 with 12 home runs and 55 RBI. The number that stands out the most is his major league league leading 47 stolen bases. That provides the Mets with their first true base stealer since Jose Reyes. Marte is likely to be the starting center fielder, and will be at the top of the Mets batting order for the next four years.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reported that the Orioles will listen to offers on outfielder Cedric Mullins. Mullins, 27, hit .291 in 2021 with 30 home runs and 59 RBI. He also still has three years of team control left, making the price to acquire him quite high.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reported that Michael Wacha signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox. Wacha, 30, was the 2013 NLCS MVP for the Cardinals, and spent the 2021 season with the Rays. The former-Met had an okay season in Tampa, posting a 5.05 ERA over 29 games.

Robert Murray of FanSided reported that he expects plenty of deals to be done in the next few days. He said that people inside the industry are reporting talks as “active.”

The Diamondbacks traded Ronny Simon to the Rays for Jordan Luplow.

On This Date in Mets History

1967: The Mets make a trade to acquire manager Gil Hodges from the Washington Senators. Ironically, this was the biggest trade in franchise history until that point.

Hodges would go on to lead the Mets to the 1969 World Series championship, marking the first in Mets history. Over four years as Mets manager, he had a 339-309 record and only one losing season.

Let’s go Mets!
