Wilmer Reyes Singles in Salt River Loss

New York prospects had a tough time at the plate on Friday night as the Salt River Rafters suffered a 9-5 loss to the Mesa Solar Sox. Wilmer Reyes led the three Mets in in the Rafters’ lineup with a single in the fourth.

Brett Baty was unable to garner a hit on the night, but scored twice. Baty scored shortly after a walk in the first and scored on a balk after reaching on fielder’s choice in the third.

Left fielder Carlos Cortes was set to play on Friday, but was ejected in his first at-bat in the first inning. Per William Boor of MLB Pipeline, Cortes wasn’t in the batter’s box in time, prompting an auto-strike from the home plate umpire. Cortes then turned to the umpire, said something and was ejected.

Cortes was replaced by Tigers prospect Eric De La Rosa for the remainder of the game.

Righty Brian Metoyer was the lone New York pitching prospect to throw on the mound on Friday night. However, his appearance was short-lived.

Metoyer allowed a home run on the second pitch he threw against the Solar Sox, coming off the bat of Cubs prospect Nelson Velazquez. The righty also gave up four walks in five plate appearances with the fourth ending his night on the mound.

The River Rafters (4-5) will look to get back to the .500 marker Saturday night against the Scottsdale Scorpions at 9:35 p.m. EST.
