One. More. Week.

The Mets enter the final week of their season after losing 8-4 to Milwaukee on Sunday afternoon.

New York, now eliminated from playoff contention, have lost 10 of their past 11 games and have been swept in back-to-back series. At least they scored more than one run in this one.

Hopes weren’t immediately lost but with Carlos Carrasco on the mound, they needed more than one run in the top of the first. Francisco Lindor, batting second, hit his 18th home run of the season to open the scorebooks and give New York its only lead.

Carrasco surrendered the lead as quickly as the Mets gained it. He walked his first batter Kolten Wong, and his second batter, Willy Adames, homered to put the Brew Crew up.

Carrasco encountered trouble again in the second. The Brewers loaded the bases with one out. Christian Yelich grounded out to first base, allowing Lorenzo Cain to score. Eduardo Escobar drove in the other two runners with a single to right field with two outs. Milwaukee led 5-1.

Carrasco finished four innings, allowing five runs, walking four, and allowing seven hits. His ERA is 5.73, not what the Mets hoped for or needed from him this season.

The Mets weren’t dead in the water just yet. Javier Baez drove in two with a double in the fourth inning and a single from Kevin Pillar brought the Mets within a run in the top of the sixth.

Milwaukee scored three more in the bottom of the sixth. Jeurys Familia entered in relief. He allowed a walk and double with one out. He got Willy Adames to ground out to third base but Jonathan Villar‘s throw went awry to score one run.

The defensive woes wouldn’t end. Aaron Loup was now in for Familia. Escobar reached base again, this time on a throwing error by Lindor. Two Brewers runners scored on the error. They led 8-4.

Nine fruitless outs later, the Mets were sunk. Aaron Ashby allowed a hit and struck out two. Devin Williams pitched a clean eighth inning, striking out one. Josh Hader struck out two to end it.

The Mets have seven games remaining.

Player of the game: Javier Baez

One of two Mets to have a multi-hit performance. He drove in two runners and didn’t commit an error as three other teammates had.
