With 14 games left to play, the Royals stand at 67-81. They have already guaranteed that they will not have a winning season for the sixth consecutive year. Whee! If they win their next 14 games, though, they’ll avoid a losing season. Considering that the Royals have two more series against Cleveland, who have had the Royals’ number all year, that is an impossible ask. Here are a couple of potential records and what the Royals would need to do to get there:

• 7-7: 74-88
• 10-4: 77-85
• 4-10: 71-91
• 12-2: 79-83
• 2-12: 69-93

We’ll see where they end up, but it certainly seems like the Royals are going to get somewhere in the realm of 73-76 wins—or pretty much what most people thought would happen at the beginning of the year.

To try to get an upper-70s winning team, they’ll be looking to get another win against the Seattle Mariners today, against whom they have already secured the season series. The Battle for Grass Creek continues.
