Morning Briefing: Mets Look to Bounce Back Against Marlins

Good morning, Mets fans!

After a 6-3 loss to the Marlins on Monday night, the Mets will look to bounce back Game 2 of the series on Tuesday night at loanDepot Park. Righty Taijuan Walker (7-5, 3.71 ERA) will take the mound for New York as Miami has yet to announce its starting pitcher.

First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. and will be broadcasted on WCBS 880 and WQBU 92.7. The game can also be seen on SNY.

Right-handed pitcher Miguel Castro has been put on the COVID-19 injury list which doesn’t necessarily mean he has tested positive, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. Albert Almora Jr. has been called up from Triple-A Syracuse to take his spot.

Outfielder Michael Conforto was on the bench for the second time in three days on Monday against Miami due to his recent struggles at the plate. Manager Luis Rojas believes Conforto’s issues are mental.

“I think he’s thinking too much at the plate and that’s causing be in between,” Rojas said. “We want to brush that off of course.”

Veteran reliever John Axford has been traded from the Blue Jays to the Brewers for $1, per the Associated Press. The righty has not played in the majors since 2018 when he was with the Dodgers but has played in the Toronto farm system this season. Axford returns to Milwaukee after starting his MLB career there from 2009-2013.
