Morning Mound Visit: Happy Deadline Day!

Max Scherzer, Trea Turner, and Anthony Rizzo are all playing for different teams now.

Normally, the Mound Visit is supposed to point you, the reader, to MLB news and great pieces of baseball writing you may have missed. Yesterday, too much happened for one link dump, so I’m just going to catch you up on all the trades that happened yesterday.

First up:

César Hernández to White Sox

The Cleveland Guardians traded second baseman, César Hernández, to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for left-handed pitcher Konnor Pilkington.

Ryan Tepera to White Sox

The Chicago Cubs sent right-handed reliever Ryan Tepera to their crosstown rivals. In return, the White Sox sent left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn.

Danny Duffy to Dodgers

The Kansas City Royals traded left-handed starter Danny Duffy to the Dodgers for a player to be named later. Duffy is currently on the IL with a flexor strain.

Anthony Rizzo to Yankees

The Chicago Cubs ripped the hearts out of every Cub fan and sent Anthony Rizzo to the Yankees for outfielder Kevin Alcántara and right-handed pitcher Alexander Vizcaíno.

Diego Castillo to Mariners

The Mariners got their Kendall Graveman replacement in right-handed reliever Diego Castillo. To get him, Seattle had to send righty reliever JT Chargois and third baseman Austin Shenton.

Kyle Schwarber to Red Sox

After missing out on Anthony Rizzo, the Red Sox got another former Cub, lefty slugger in Kyle Schwarber. In return, the Nationals received right-handed pitcher Aldo Ramirez.

Max Scherzer and Trea Turner to Dodgers

The Dodgers swiped future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer from the Padres and somehow came away with shortstop Trea Turner, too. The Nationals received right-handed starter Josiah Gray, catcher Keibert Ruiz, outfielder Casey Donovan, and right-handed pitcher Gerardo Carrillo.

Daniel Hudson to Padres

The Padres snagged right-handed reliever from Washington’s fire sale. In return, San Diego is sending right-handed pitcher Mason Thompson and infielder Jordan Barley.
