After winning five straight, the Mets sit atop the National League East with a 16-13 record. But it wasn’t all good news as Jacob deGrom left Sunday’s start with right side tightness.

An MRI revealed no structural damage, so the Mets will look to have deGrom back soon, and they will hope to keep their win streak alive against the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays this week.

Hitter Of The Week: Francisco Lindor

Lindor made more headlines for the rat/racoon story, but his performance at the plate this week shouldn’t be overshadowed. In what was his first big week in a Mets uniform, Lindor batted .286/.407/476 with four RBI in 27 plate appearances.

While he started the week 0-for-7, he finished it with a flourish. He recorded hits in four straight games, and crushed a game tying home run in the eighth inning in Friday’s 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.

Lindor still has a long way to go before his overall number’s fully turn around. He is still batting just .189/.315/.272 with an OPS+ of 69. However, Lindor’s performance over the last few games is an encouraging sign that he’ll soon start hitting like the top player he’s been over the past several seasons.

From 2016 to 2020, Lindor was sixth in the MLB in WAR (25.2) ahead of players such as Nolan Arenado (23.4), Jose Altuve (23.0) and Freddie Freeman (23.0). Given that Lindor is still at the prime of his career at 27-years-old, it’s likely that everyone will soon forget his poor start to the 2021 season.

Lindor’s stats for the past week: .287, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SB, .844 OPS

Pitcher Of The Week: Taijuan Walker

For the first time this season, a Mets’ starter not named Jacob deGrom is the pitcher of the week. Taijaun Walker is this week’s choice due to his seven-inning performance against the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

Despite two rain delay’s, Walker struck out eight batters while allowing just one baserunner and one unearned run in the Mets’ 4-1 win.

While Walker wasn’t expected to be a dominant starter for the Mets, he’s been excellent so far in 2021. Walker now has a 2.38 ERA and 1.02 over 34 innings pitched this season. He also has a 9.3 K/9 and is second on the team behind only deGrom with a 2.84 FIP among Mets’ starters.

It’s also worth mentioning the strong relief pitching the Mets got this week.

Jeurys Familia, Edwin Diaz, Trevor May, and Miguel Castro combined for 13 shutout innings, and Tommy Hunter pitched extremely well in his Mets debut, but Walker’s stellar start was so good that it makes him the clear choice for pitcher of the week.

Walkers start for the past week: 1-0, 7 IP, 0 ER, 8 K
