Rojas Provides Injury Updates On J.D. Davis and Dellin Betances

New York Mets manager Luis Rojas provided injury updates on Wednesday afternoon regarding third baseman J.D. Davis and relief pitcher Dellin Betances.

Davis, who was plunked on the hand with a pitch in the team’s opening series last week, has begun swinging a bat and took batting practice yesterday.

According to Rojas, Davis looked really good in the batter’s box and the hope is, that he will be able to come off the injured list when he is eligible to be activated this weekend.

As for Betances (shoulder impingement), Rojas says the right-hander is unlikely to travel with the team on their upcoming road trip to Colorado and Chicago.

Betances is receiving treatment in New York and is feeling better everyday, but is still experiencing some minor pain and soreness, per Rojas. As of now, there is no timetable for when Betances will begin throwing.

The right-hander hit the injured list after pitching a scoreless inning in his season debut against the Philadelphia Phillies. Since signing with the Mets prior to the 2020 season, Betances has yet to regain his upper-90s’ velocity, which made him one of MLB’s most dominant relievers from 2015-20 with the Yankees.

At the moment, it is safe to assume that Betances will not be activated from the injured list when he is eligible to return on April 17.

But on a brighter note, it appears that we will at least see Davis back in the Mets lineup either on, or close to this date.
