Hello Wednesday my old friend

Anne Rogers reported on a series of roster moves the Royals made yesterday afternoon:

The Royals made some roster moves before Tuesday’s game against the Angels at Kauffman Stadium, placing reliever Josh Staumont on the injured list, while selecting right-hander Ervin Santana and recalling right-hander Tyler Zuber from the alternate training site. The club also optioned infielder/outfielder Ryan McBroom to the alternate training site.

The Royals did not give a reason for Staumont being placed on the injured list, but once he is able to return, the club will need to make a corresponding move to clear a spot on its 40-man roster, which is full.

Staumont previously missed a portion of Spring Training while recovering from COVID-19.

The same Royals.com link above reveals that Jakob Junis will start again, in tomorrow’s game against the Blue Jays.

Jim Bowden at The Athletic found the hottest starts from around baseball, including Whit Merrifield:

Slash line: .375/.405/.719 2B: 2 HR: 3 RBI: 10 SB: 1

Whit Merrifield, 32, heard all of the whispers in the offseason from front offices that were concerned his age-related decline might be starting after a third straight year of decreasing on-base percentage and batting average. However, Merrifield, who has led the AL in hits twice (2018, 2019), should be reminding them that players with the hit tool normally succeed well into their mid-30s, and although he’s led the AL in stolen bases twice, he’s not a run-first-tool player like other players who usually do show age-related decline at 32. Merrifield was moved from right field to second base this spring, and he is comfortable at either position. But no matter where he plays defensively, he’s going to hit. Look for Merrifield to be among the league leaders in hits again this season.

Cleveland first baseman Yu Chang shared a bunch of racist messages he got following committing an error. No, the Cleveland team name being problematic does not excuse being racist to a player who is on that roster.

The Brewers accidentally used a pitcher in a game who wasn’t on the lineup card.

This is both an MLB item and an NBA item: 2020 top draft pick Anthony Edwards on Alex Rodriguez being the new owner of his team, the Timberwolves: “I don’t know who that is.”

Have we talked about who we, as a community, want to see take over full-time hosting duties? I’m leaning toward LeVar Burton, myself.

Interesting question from AskReddit: What advice would you give young men to learn to take care of their bodies physically, in order to avoid that physical pain when older?

Today’s Rumblings dog is Maggie! Reader Larry J., who reads the site but doesn’t comment, emailed to let me know that one of my photos is his wife Donna and their wonderful Golden doodle Maggie: “Maggie is a golden doodle and is smart as all get out. She is a trained therapy dog and loves kids. The picture I mentioned is Maggie and my wife (Donna) at Werner Park and a child is asking to pet the dog.”
