Anne Rogers reported on a series of roster moves the Royals made yesterday afternoon:
The Royals made some roster moves before Tuesday’s game against the Angels at Kauffman Stadium, placing reliever Josh Staumont on the injured list, while selecting right-hander Ervin Santana and recalling right-hander Tyler Zuber from the alternate training site. The club also optioned infielder/outfielder Ryan McBroom to the alternate training site.
The Royals did not give a reason for Staumont being placed on the injured list, but once he is able to return, the club will need to make a corresponding move to clear a spot on its 40-man roster, which is full.
Staumont previously missed a portion of Spring Training while recovering from COVID-19.
The same Royals.com link above reveals that Jakob Junis will start again, in tomorrow’s game against the Blue Jays.

Whit Merrifield, 32, heard all of the whispers in the offseason from front offices that were concerned his age-related decline might be starting after a third straight year of decreasing on-base percentage and batting average. However, Merrifield, who has led the AL in hits twice (2018, 2019), should be reminding them that players with the hit tool normally succeed well into their mid-30s, and although he’s led the AL in stolen bases twice, he’s not a run-first-tool player like other players who usually do show age-related decline at 32. Merrifield was moved from right field to second base this spring, and he is comfortable at either position. But no matter where he plays defensively, he’s going to hit. Look for Merrifield to be among the league leaders in hits again this season.
