Lou Gehrig Watching Game

An historic announcement, and COVID protocols make news the first week of Spring Training.

Welcome to ‘Marty’s Musings’, my weekly column of numbers summarizing the happenings in the baseball world. I am your guide for taking an analytic look at the news and notes throughout the game, and highlighting key pitching matchups.

Last week MLB announced a league-wide Lou Gehrig Day, and amidst states reopening with no COVID restrictions MLB gets tough on protocols.

News & Notes

6/2 - Mark your calendar for June 2nd for MLB’s first-annual Lou Gehrig Day. Gehrig joins Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente as having dedicated days the league celebrates their legacy. On June 2nd all home teams will wear special patches and wristbands commemorating Gehrig’s legacy and raising awareness for ALS.

3 - Players that were confirmed to have broken MLB COVID protocol last week. Franmil Reyes, Jose Ramirez and Pedro Strop will all be away from the team for a few days following Reyes going out to get a haircut and Ramirez and Strop having dinner at a restaurant. After a rocky start to the COVID-shortened 2020, teams will be enforcing the protocols.

24 - Days until the planned Opening Day!
