Song of the Day
“Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic
Ya know how after every home city championship there’s always a spike in child births 9-10 months later? Someone needs to remind me to check that same stat after this song debuted yesterday. God, I feel so sexy right now...
...ahem...
On to the Rumblings
Alec Lewis took a shot at what the lineup should look like in 2021 over at The Athletic.
Thinking about the last two seasons, it’s hard to argue against Jorge Soler, who led the American League in home runs in 2019, and Salvador Perez, who posted a career-best .986 OPS in 2020, as the Royals’ two most dangerous hitters.
This means one of them, if not a combination of the two throughout the year, will bat fourth.
“I think what you’re going to see with (the No. 4 and No. 5 spots),” manager Mike Matheny said recently, “is who matches up well and who’s really swinging it well. You get to No. 4 and No. 5, and you’re hopeful the first three figured out to do what they do, which is get on base. Then we need somebody hot to do damage.”
Lynn Worthy writes that the pressure is off Nicky Lopez a bit.
Bobby Witt Jr. Fast.
Inexact science here, as there was no Statcast for this game, but ...

In the Statcast era (2015-21) there have only been 18 instances of a player going home to home in less than 15 seconds.#Royals top prospect Bobby Witt Jr. appears to do that here. pic.twitter.com/0wEdduseeL
Bobby Witt Jr. Powerful. (According to MLB Pipeline)
Royals: Bobby Witt Jr., SS (MLB No. 7)
Palm-tree-hitting outfielder Seuly Matias might have the best raw power, but if we’re going off who is most likely to get their pop to show at the top level, the choice here is Witt. The 2019 second overall pick was already showing plus power from the right side in his amateur days and improved on that with all-field strength at last year’s alternate site when he was still only 20 years old. With an improved ability to make adjustments at the plate, Witt shouldn’t have as much trouble making the most of his power as Matias will, given the differences in their hit tools.

The Washington Football Team cut 2020 Comeback Player of the Year and former Chiefs QB, Alex Smith.
The Washington Football Team has informed QB Alex Smith that he has been released as expected, setting free the AP Comeback Player of the Year and closing the door on one of the coolest stories in the NFL last season. Smith is believed to still want to play.

Yesterday the Wandavision finale dropped and I’m very angry about a certain...phallic...joke.
Adrenaline Rush of the Week
Dying Light
If you’ve ever thought “Hey what would it be like if I was a super athletic parkour-er stuck in a zombie apocalypse where if you get stuck outside your shelter after dark you go from predator to prey real quick” then this is the game for you.
After the tutorial, my heart was pounding. They warn you pretty soon that you need to not be out after dark (like game title early on) and I mostly adhered to those rules starting out.
Then I got a bit brave (read liquored up) one night and told myself “Hey I got this trusty wrench and some Spider-man level dexterity, let’s take a stroll at night.”
It didn’t take long to understand the warnings they tried to get me to take headed of before, it is WILDLY scary and entertaining.
If you need to feel alive, go run among the dead for a bit with Dying Light.
Have a Saturday, ya’ll!
