Alice Lloyd Eagles fall in RSC Tournament semi-finals to West Virginia Tech

Pippa Passes, KY: The Alice Lloyd College Eagles battled the West Virginia Tech Golden Bears on Saturday, February 27th for a spot in the RSC Tournament Championship game. In a contest that was tight throughout, the Golden Bears would go on a run in the crucial minutes to pull out an 82-68 victory.

In the opening half, the visitors jumped out to a quick six-point advantage, but Eagle junior guard Chandler Stewart and senior guard Noah Young led an Eagle resurgence to tie the game. The squads then traded leads throughout the stanza. When the horn rang to signal intermission, the clubs entered the dressing room locked in a 35-35 tie.

As the second half began, Tech came out on fire, as they sank five consecutive bombs to pull ahead. However, the hosts refused to go away and slowly worked their way back into contention as junior forward Will Philpot, came up with several huge buckets. With just over six minutes remaining, the Caney Creek squad trailed by just two, 68-66.

On the next possession, the Eagles came up with a big defensive play and got a shot inside to tie. The attempt missed, but they also got a tip-in opportunity. Unfortunately, it rolled off and Tech grabbed the rebound. From that point, the Golden Bears would close on a 14-2 blitz to pull out the win.

For Alice Lloyd (17-6), three players reached double-digits. Stewart led the way, with 21 points and 4 assists. He was followed by his backcourt-buddy Young with 15 points and 3 assists. Philpot was solid as he earned a double-double by scoring 14 points and ripping down 13 rebounds. Junior guard Bryce Slone added 2 steals.

The Caney Club finished shooting 43.3% (26-60) from the field and 30% (6-20) from the long-range. They connected on 90.9% (10-11) from the charity line. Additionally, they registered 24 rebounds, 13 assists, and 5 steals.

WVT (11-6) was paced by Andreas Jonsson with 16 points. His squad finished shooting 57.8% (26-45) from the field and a staggering 84.6% (11-13) from behind the arc. They finished at 82.6% (19-23) from the foul line. Additionally, they registered 30 rebounds, 16 assists, and 9 steals.

Alice Lloyd now awaits to learn the announcement of the NCCAA National Tournament field.
