[Softball] Garcia Named KCAC Softball Hitter of the Week

WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University third baseman Jennifer Garcia has been selected as the KCAC Softball Hitter of the Week, the league announced today (Mar. 2).

Garcia, a freshman slugger from Sylamar, Calif., had as impressive of a first week as you could expect for the Falcons. Garcia batted .650 and slugged two home runs and drove in an astounding 15 runs to help the Falcons get off to a 5-1 start, the program's best start to a season since at least 2005.

Her week included a 4-4 effort with a homer and four RBIs in the Falcons' 17-7 run-rule victory over Mount Marty (S.D.) on Saturday (Feb. 27).

Garcia's 15 RBIs are tops in the KCAC and she's also second in batting average (.650) and third in hits (13).

"We knew she was going to be a great hitter for us all along, we are just excited that as a freshman, she's jumped in so early and found her way!" said Friends head coach Suzanne Unruh. "It's only the beginning for this kid!!"

Garcia and the Falcons will next host their annual Invitational on Mar. 5-7 at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
