White Sox 4, Angels 4: Bats rally to force a tie

Shortened game (five innings) ends where it started

The White Sox (0-1-1) got off to a slow start, but rallied with a big fourth inning to force a 4-4 tie against the Angels (1-0-1).

Alex McRae got the start for the White Sox and allowed one run in one inning against the Angels. The Angels scored that run when they got three consecutive one-out singles by Shohei Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols.

In the bottom of the third, the Angels added to their lead against White Sox reliever Ryan Burr. Like the first inning, the Angels’ scoring in the third also started with a Pujols RBI single to drive in Ohtani. José Iglesias followed with a two-run triple to make the score 4-0 and blow the game open.

The White Sox got on the board in the fourth inning, however. Yermín Mercedes led off the inning with a double, which was the first extra base hit of the day for the White Sox. Leury García walked, and Micker Adolfo drove in a run with a single. Matt Reynolds drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to trim the deficit to two, and Luis Robert sliced a double to collect his first RBI of Spring Training. The comeback was complete when Adam Eaton, who also collected a single and hit-by-pitch this afternoon, hit a sacrifice fly.

The Angels nearly retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth against Tayron Guerrero. However, with the bases loaded and no outs, Guerrero forced a popup and got back-to-back strikeouts to end the scoring threat.

The White Sox will get another attempt at their first spring training win tomorrow against the Rangers. That game will start at 2:05 p.m. Central, NBC Sports Chicago will televise it, and ESPN Radio 1000 will have the radio coverage.
