Good morning Mets fans! Spring Training games officially begin today for teams around the league! The Mets will open their Spring Training schedule tomorrow against the Maimi Marlins at 1:05PM.

Collin Hetzler announced on twitter that he has accepted a position with the Mets as their next Complex Hitting Coordinator. “I’m incredibly fired up to start getting after it,” said Hetzler. “Infinite thanks and gratitude to everyone whose helped me get to this point. Couldn’t have done it without ya’ll.”

VIA SNYKevin Pillar spoke with the media following camp Saturday. He said it’s an exciting time to a Met. “You got some of the best players in the world. You got arguably the best shortstop in the game, you got the best starting pitcher in the game… Just a really exciting time to be a Met,” said Pillar.

When asked about why he decided to sign with the Mets, Pillar was quoted saying, “When you come to a team that’s ready to win right now, that greatly excited me form the first time spoke,” he said. (Via SNY)

Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Harol Gonzalez will start the Mets’ Grapefruit League opener March 1 against the Miami Marlins. Jordan Yamamoto will start their first home game (at Clover Park), March 2.

1975: The New York Mets purchased Dave Kingman from the Giants. Kingman was drafted by San Francisco as the team’s first pick in the initial round of the secondary phase of the 1970 amateur draft.

1981: The New York Mets traded Steve Henderson to the Chicago Cubs for Dave Kingman.

2006: The New York Mets signed free agent pitcher Pedro Feliciano. Feliciano pitched as a relief pitcher for the Mets from 2002-2004, then from 2006-2010, and again in 2013. The Mets first acquired Feliciano in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds in 2002.

2009: Pitcher Tom Sturdivant passed away of an undisclosed reason on February 28, 2009
