Mets Hire Matt Den Dekker as Minor League Outfield and Baserunning Coordinator

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported on Friday that the Mets have hired Matt den Dekker as a minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator.

Den Dekker is no stranger to the New York Mets. He played outfield for the Mets during the 2013, 2014, and 2018 seasons. During the three seasons Den Dekker spent with the Mets, he hit .219/.306/.285, with a .591 OPS. He accumulated 12 doubles, one run home, 14 RBI’s and 11 stolen bases over the course of 88 games played with the Mets.

Despite his struggles offensively, he provided value with his defense (career 6 DRS) and baserunning (career 4.7 BsR).

Den Dekker, the former fifth round draft pick from Florida, also spent time with the Washington Nationals (two years) and Detroit Tigers (one year) during his major league career.

The strong defenders last season stop in the big leagues was with the Mets in 2018 for eight games. The following season he played for the Long Island Ducks before retiring.

Following his retirement as a player, den Dekker coached with the University of Florida for a season and then Charles Southern for a season.
