Cold Shooting Dooms Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles at Oakland City University

0 11

Oakland City, IN: The Alice Lloyd College Lady Eagles had their worst shooting game of the season, and it cost them dearly in an 81-56 defeat at the hands of the Oakland City Lady Mighty Oaks. The matchup took place Saturday, January 23rd.

In the opening period, ALC utilized the hot hand of guard Haley Hall. The senior drilled four long bombs to lift her club to a 20-15 advantage. However, the Mighty Oaks would get a late old fashioned three-point play and a triple to pull ahead 21-20 after ten minutes of action. Little did the Caney Creek club know what was coming next.

In the second quarter, things started to go south. The visitors would only sink two shots and produce just ten total points. The Kentucky club would trail 38-30 at intermission.

As the third period began, OCU would race out of the locker room with a 9-0 burst to go up, 47-30. Fortunately, a short 7-0 run by the Lady Eagles was capped off by a nice bucket from senior guard Shelby Davis and kept her squad within striking distance. However, the Mighty Oaks would still lead 56-45 at the periods end.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as things would get. The usually sharp-shooting Pippa Passes club would see the game balloon out of hand as shot after shot refused to go in. The hometown crew would take the final stanza 25-11, as ALC could not get anything to drop.

For Alice Lloyd (3-4), Hall led the way with 20 points and 3 steals. Incredibly, she was the only player to score more than 8 points. Davis finished as the second-high scorer, with 7.

Sophomore guard Hannah Kash finished with 4 assists while freshman forward Madison Thompson grabbed 10 rebounds and tied senior center Alex Clifton, with 2 blocks.

The Caney Club finished shooting just 27.3% (18-66) from the field and 33.3% (7-21) from long range. They connected on 92.9% (13-14) from the charity line, and also added 41 rebounds, 12 assists, and 7 steals.

OCU (3-12) was paced by Emilee Hope with 24 points. Her squad finished shooting 40.6% (28-69) from the field and 52.4% (11-21) from behind the arc. They wound up

sinking 77.8% (14-18) from the foul line. They also added 45 rebounds, 18 assists, and 11 steals.

The Lady Eagles return to action for two important home double-headers with the men’s squad next week. On Tuesday, January 26, they host the Brescia Lady Bearcats in a 5:30 pm tip-off. Then on Saturday, January 30th, they face the Asbury University Lady Eagles with a 1:00 pm start.
