Source: LeMahieu, Yankees Remain At Stalemate In Contract Negotiations

0 4

The New York Yankees and free agent DJ LeMahieu remain at a stalemate in contract negotiations, a source tells Metsmerized.

The Yankees still won’t budge on giving LeMahieu the five-year deal he is seeking, however, LeMahieu desires to remain in the Bronx. On November 19th, Metsmerized reported that the 32-year-old is willing to take less money to stay with the Yankees, but wants that fifth year.

MLB Insider Jim Bowden followed up on this by reporting that bringing back LeMahieu is the Yankees’ top priority this offseason. Bowden also noted that it is evident that LeMahieu’s preference is to stay in the Bronx.

YES Network analyst Jack Curry says LeMahieu’s agent is looking for a five-year, $100 million contract and believes his client is worth the price after earning the 2020 batting title and back-to-back silver sluggers in pinstripes.

LeMahieu is set to turn 33-years-old in July, which is why the Yankees, and other clubs could be hesitant to offer him a deal that would extend into his age 37 season.

An industry source told Ken Davidoff of The New York Post that LeMahieu wants to stay in New York so badly that the Mets are his second option if things don’t work out with the Yankees.

While the free agent market has started off at a tortoise’s pace, the Yankees and LeMahieu are clearly playing a game of hard ball with each other when it comes to negotiations.
