Rays Your Voice: Hoping for good news, with Danny Russell

MLB: World Series-Tampa Bay Rays at Los Angeles Dodgers
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Is there anything for Rays fans to look forward to this winter?

We’re a day away from the non-tender deadline, which is a date that doesn’t always bring great news for Rays fans. It’s the last opportunity for the Rays to cut bait with players who have not yet been tendered a contract for 2021. The 40-man roster is full, so they’re going to have to lose at least some players. They could trade players like Joey Wendle or Nate Lowe, or maybe a bigger name like Blake Snell?

The Rays are rumored to be open to trading the former Cy Young award winner, although it’s unclear how likely that scenario is. They’ve already taken a good chunk of the payroll off the books by declining Charlie Morton and Mike Zunino’s option, and waiving Chaz Roe. If the front office is really trying to move on from big contracts, Snell’s is the biggest left.

Danny and I break down some moves you could possibly see in the fall out of Charlie Morton signing with the Atlanta Braves. Who knows? Maybe some good news is right around the corner.
