Morning Briefing: A Very Thankful Thanksgiving For Mets Fans

Happy Thanksgiving Mets fans! We hope you have a safe and healthy holiday with your loved ones on this glorious day. This year in particular, there’s a lot to be thankful for as a Mets fan with the Steve Cohen era rejuvenating the franchise.

The Mets interviewed former pitcher Chris Young for their general manager opening, per Mike Puma of The New York Post. Young is currently serving as league vice president of on-field operations for MLB and pitched for the Amazins’ under general manager Sandy Alderson from 2011-12.

As SNY reported, Tampa Rays assistant general manager Bobby Heck is not a candidate to join the Mets front office despite various rumors marking him as a favorite to take over as GM.

According to Mike Mayer of MMO, the Mets are considering bringing back J.P. Riccardi in their front office. Riccardi served as the assistant general manager to Sandy Alderson from 2011-18.

Steve Cohen joined Mets Hot Stove for an exclusive interview on SNY last night.

A Citi Field employee told Bradford Davis of The New York Daily News that Steve Cohen’s promised payment of $500 a month came through yesterday. Cohen will provide relief assistance to all Mets ballpark staffers until Opening Day. To no ones surprise, stadium workers were reportedly frustrated with the lack of relief they received from the Wilpon regime.

Mets pitcher David Peterson went on MLB Network Radio to praise the impact of Steve Cohen and expressed his excitement about the return of Marcus Stroman.

Per MLB Insider Jon Morosi, the Dodgers are showing interest in left-handed reliever Brad Hand. Hand’s club option was declined by the Cleveland Indians after leading the AL in saves in 2020. He also made three straight All-Star appearances from 2017-19.

The Colorado Rockies acquired right-handed pitcher Robert Stephenson and minor league outfielder Jameson Hannah from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed Jeff Hoffman and minor league right-handed Case Williams, as MLB Insider Robert Murray reported.

The Pirates claimed pitcher Ashton Goudeau off waivers from the Rockies, per Murray.

Braves newest free-agent acquisition Charlie Morton told The Associated Press that Atlanta, whom he started his career with 12 years ago, were the most aggressive in pursuit of his services and the first team to call him. The 37-year-old signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Braves after the Tampa Bay Rays declined his option.
